01 — Executive Summary

A fifty-year-old manufacturer with no digital foundation

Custom Pipe & Fabrication is a fifty-year-old, thirteen-location manufacturer operating across nine states. It is, by any operating measure, a substantial business. Its digital foundation does not reflect that.

Three things define the current position. First, there is unauthorized third-party content on the homepage right now — Greek-language online-casino copy, hidden from human visitors by an off-screen CSS offset, carrying a live outbound link to a gambling affiliate. Second, the site has essentially no technical SEO foundation — not a weak one, none: zero meta descriptions and zero structured data across every page tested. Third, 83% of all organic traffic is people already searching for the company by name.

Rank for "pipe fabrication" — 1,655/mo at difficulty 7 ("Easy")

[ Data verified ] Search Atlas Site Explorer (custompipe.com, site_id 569209), live keyword lookups, direct crawl of robots.txt and XML sitemaps, rendered-DOM inspection via headless Chrome — pulled August 5, 2026.

The headline opportunity. The flagship term "pipe fabrication" does 1,655 searches per month at a $6.12 commercial CPC, and Search Atlas rates its difficulty 7 out of 100 — "Easy." Custom Pipe ranks #19. Three moves drive most of the upside: (1) remove the injected spam and close the access path; (2) ship titles, meta descriptions and Organization/LocalBusiness schema across the existing 145 URLs; (3) consolidate the duplicated branch pages into thirteen complete local landing pages that can actually win "near me" and city-level searches.

The seven questions, answered

  • Biggest opportunity? "Pipe fabrication" — 1,655/mo at difficulty 7, currently ranked #19, with 18,520/mo potential across the cluster.
  • Biggest threat? A Google spam action triggered by the injected content — that risk is domain-level, not page-level.
  • Where is revenue left on the table? 207 non-branded visits a month for a thirteen-plant national manufacturer. The site converts existing awareness and generates almost none.
  • Fix first? Delete the injected block today; audit how it got there this week.
  • Fastest path to growth? The 87 keywords sitting in positions 11–20, movable with on-page work alone.
  • Immediate AI advantage? NSF certification, AWWA presence, 50 years and 13 plants are real and verifiable — and encoded nowhere a machine can read them.
  • What would Bonsai prioritize first? Phase 1 in §14 — containment and cleanup, inside 14 days.
02 — The Injection

There is unauthorized content on your homepage

This is the most urgent item in this document. The homepage contains a block of Greek-language online-casino promotional copy, positioned 4,537,884 pixels to the left of the viewport. No human visitor will ever see it. Every crawler will. Confirmed on two independent renders, August 5, 2026.

<div style="position:absolute; left:-4537884px;">
<h2>Το Bruno Online Casino: Η Πόρτα για την Κορυφαία Εμπειρία Καζίνο…</h2>
  <p>… <a href="http://www.cuonstage.gr/">Brunocasino</a> …</p>
</div>

It sits immediately after the legitimate "Precision connections make the difference" heading, inside the homepage's Fusion builder content.

Why it matters, in order of severity

  • It is a hidden-text and link-scheme violation of Google's spam policies. Both are explicitly named. Exposure here is a manual action or algorithmic suppression against the entire domain — not just the homepage.
  • It is evidence of unauthorized write access. Content nobody at Custom Pipe authored is living in the CMS. Whatever path put it there — compromised admin account, vulnerable plugin, a link-selling arrangement made by a former vendor — is a security question that outranks the SEO question.
  • It bleeds authority to a gambling site. The homepage is the most-linked page on the domain — 181 backlinks from 86 referring domains — and it is passing a dofollow link to an unrelated Greek affiliate.
  • AI crawlers ingest it. Systems building an entity profile of "Custom Pipe & Fabrication" are reading casino content on the company's front page.

Scope

Seven additional pages were tested — About, Waterworks Products, Pump Products, Lubbock Branch, Technical Resources, the ProFab acquisition announcement, and ProFab Branch. No injection was found on any of them. The compromise appears contained to the homepage. That is good news for cleanup effort and bad news for impact: it is on the one page that matters most.

Related signal. The backlink profile contains a dense cluster of low-quality auto-generated domains — prlog.ru (35 links), factmags.com, knows.sbs, takes.sbs, wants.cfd, seol.store, seodomains.website, indians.cc. Whether connected to the same activity or unrelated historical spam, the link neighborhood needs an audit alongside the cleanup.

03 — Technical Foundation

Missing fundamentals, site-wide

Zero meta descriptions. Zero structured data. Zero exceptions. Titles follow a bare Page Name – Custom Pipe pattern with no service language, no geography and no differentiation. The homepage title is eleven characters. The og:title tag is present and empty — so any share of the homepage on LinkedIn, where the company actively directs visitors, renders without a headline.

The declared sitemap returns 404

robots.txt declares Sitemap: https://www.custompipe.com/sitemap_index.xml. That URL returns HTTP 404, serving a 144KB HTML error page. The functioning sitemap is at /wp-sitemap.xml — WordPress core's default — and is declared nowhere. Search engines following the declared path find nothing.

robots.txt is also a legacy artifact: duplicate User-agent: * blocks and blanket disallows on AhrefsBot, ia_archiver (Wayback Machine) and others. Notably it does not block GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot or Google-Extended — AI crawler access is open, which is the correct posture and worth preserving deliberately rather than by accident.

Duplicate branch architecture

Every branch exists at two live, indexed, self-canonicalizing URLs — and the signals are split between them:

LubbockH1PhoneWordsCanonical
/branches/lubbock-tx/Lubbock, TXmissing1,540self
/contact/lubbock-tx-branch/missing(806) 787-88861,170self

Neither is a complete local landing page. One has the heading, the other has the NAP. Both self-canonicalize, so Google is asked to treat them as two independent pages competing for identical local intent. Across thirteen locations this is roughly twenty-six half-built pages competing with each other instead of thirteen strong ones. The same pattern was confirmed on Phoenix and Conroe.

Index bloat

314 indexed URLs against 145 in the current sitemap. The excess is largely pre-WordPress legacy paths still known to search engines — /Products/dironpipe.html, /index.php/products/column-pipe/, /ductile.htm and dozens more — plus custompipe.com/hello-world/, the default WordPress starter post. /products.html returns a hard 404 rather than redirecting to its modern equivalent.

04 — Organic Visibility

Ranking #1 for your own name is not marketing

Of 1,229 monthly organic visits, 1,022 come from people who already knew the company's name. The top terms are "custom pipe" (#1, 384 visits), "custom pipe & fabrication" (#1, 312), "custom pipe fabrication" (#1, 208).

The entire non-branded discovery engine produces 207 visits per month for a thirteen-plant manufacturer. Intent distribution confirms it — across 412 classified keywords: navigational 135 keywords → 1,038 visits; informational 228 keywords → 79 visits; transactional 49 keywords → 16 visits.

Sixteen visits a month from transactional intent, across a company that fabricates for municipal water systems in nine states.

Single-page dependency

The homepage carries 379 of the site's ranking keywords and effectively its entire traffic. The second-best page draws 47 visits; the third draws 10. Both product hubs — Waterworks Products and Pump Products, the pages describing what the company actually sells — draw zero traffic between them. Every branch page draws zero. This is a concentration risk as much as a performance one.

[ Data verified ] Search Atlas keyword API, live lookup August 5, 2026. Traffic potential on the "pipe fabrication" cluster: 18,520/month.

Custom Pipe owns every variant of its own name and is absent from nearly every variant of its category. "Pipe fabrication" at difficulty 7 is not a hard target — it is an unclaimed one. The company sits at #19 because it has one thin product page and no supporting content, not because the term is competitive.

A note on where not to spend. "Column pipe" — a term central to the actual product line — returns only 50 US searches/month at difficulty 17, and the related-term cloud is dominated by Indian market brands (Finolex, Supreme, Jain, "borewell column pipe"). US demand for that phrase is thin. Product-line vocabulary and search vocabulary diverge here, and content strategy has to follow search vocabulary.

06 — AI Search Visibility

Real credentials, encoded nowhere a machine can read

SignalCoverageReading
AI Overviews7 of 137 (5.1%)marginal
People Also Ask9 of 279 (3.2%)weak
Local pack13 of 299 (4.3%)weak
Sitelinks14 of 370 (3.8%)weak
Image results45 of 188 (23.9%)the bright spot

Custom Pipe appears in AI Overviews on 5.1% of the searches where one is served. Ninety-five percent of the time an AI answer is generated in this category, the company is not in it.

The cause is structural and it is the same finding as §03: there is no structured data anywhere on the site. No Organization schema. No LocalBusiness schema for thirteen physical plants. No Product schema for the waterworks and pump lines. No FAQ schema. No Service schema.

AI search systems assemble entity understanding from structured, machine-readable signals — schema, consistent NAP, authoritative citations, clear entity relationships. Custom Pipe offers none of the first, inconsistent versions of the second, and a thin set of the third. There is also a compounding problem: the entity that AI systems can read on the homepage includes Greek casino content. Cleanup is a prerequisite to AI visibility work, not a parallel track.

The opportunity is unusually clean. The company holds genuine authority signals that AI systems weight heavily and competitors cannot fabricate: NSF/ANSI 61 certification listings (8 backlinks from nsf.org, DA 49), AWWA conference participation, fifty years of operating history, thirteen physical plants, and trade-press coverage in Water Well Journal. Those facts exist. They are simply not encoded anywhere a machine can read them.

07 — Local Authority

Thirteen plants, 4.3% local pack coverage

Thirteen locations across nine states: Anaheim CA (corporate), Stanton CA, Riverside CA, Fresno CA, Phoenix AZ, Lubbock TX, Conroe TX, Grand Island NE, Winter Haven FL, Woodburn OR, Clovis NM, Pasco WA, and the ProFab branch.

Local pack coverage: 13 appearances across 299 eligible local SERPs. Three compounding causes:

  • The duplicate branch architecture splits every location's signals across two competing URLs, neither complete.
  • No LocalBusiness schema on any location page — no address, phone, hours or geo-coordinates in machine-readable form, for any of the thirteen.
  • Entity-name inconsistency. The company appears as "Custom Pipe & Fabrication, Inc.", "Custom Pipe & Coupling, Inc." and "Custom Pipe." Crunchbase lists it as custom-pipe-coupling; Yelp's Lubbock listing is "Custom Pipe & Coupling"; the acquisition release used "Custom Pipe & Fabrication, Inc."

Directory sources also show conflicting Lubbock phone numbers — (806) 767-0902 in third-party listings versus (806) 787-8886 on the company's own branch page. Needs confirmation

For AI systems and for Google's local algorithm, inconsistent naming is inconsistent identity. Two names and two phone numbers for one business in one city is a resolvable problem, and resolving it is cheap relative to its effect.

08 — Content Authority

Good content, never assembled

32 blog posts. 35 technical resources. 2 product pages. 3 testimonials. The content that exists is genuinely differentiated — this is not a company with nothing to say:

  • "Understanding HSLA Steel: Strength, Performance and Versatility" — 21 ranking keywords
  • "How to Choose the Right Well Pipe in 2026: Steel vs PVC vs HDPE" — 47 visits/mo, the #2 page
  • "What Is Protecto 401 Lining and Why It Matters in the Waterworks Industry"
  • "The Benefits of Stainless Steel Spools in the Waterworks Industry"
  • "Ductile Iron Fabrication for Vertical Turbine Pumps"

Downloadable technical PDFs — flange specs, minimum spool lengths, price lists — are indexed and earning links.

The problem is architecture, not quality. These posts sit as isolated articles with no topical clustering, no hub-and-spoke structure, and no internal linking connecting them to the two product pages that should be converting. The Well Pipe article pulls 47 visits/month and routes them nowhere. The HSLA article ranks for 21 keywords and connects to no commercial page. Meanwhile the two pages that should anchor everything carry 12 and 5 keywords respectively and zero traffic.

The raw material for topical authority is already written and paid for. It has never been assembled.

09 — Authority & Backlinks

A barbelled profile with a Russian PR site on top

545 backlinks from 251 referring domains. Growth is flat — 440 links in April, 463 in May, 462 in June.

Genuine authority assets

  • nsf.org — 8 backlinks, DA 49. NSF/ANSI 61 certification listings — a hard-to-replicate trust signal in potable water
  • yellowpages.com (DA 67), superpages.com (DA 47), thebluebook.com (DA 41)
  • ace.awwa.org / confex.com (DA 42) — AWWA ACE presence
  • waterwelljournal.com (DA 27) — trade press
  • Regional chambers; grandisland.org (DA 30)
  • profab.net — 21 backlinks from the acquired company

Low-quality cluster

  • prlog.ru35 links, the single largest source
  • factmags.com, waterequipmentregistry.com
  • knows.sbs, seol.store, takes.sbs, wants.cfd
  • seodomains.website, indians.cc, way2check.cv
  • domain.com.lc, goooogla.com
  • Auto-generated directory and link-farm domains at DA 2–4

The single largest referring domain by volume is a Russian press-release syndication site. That is not an authority profile befitting the market position.

10 — Competitive Landscape

Mid-pack against companies you likely out-manufacture

pipeandsteelindustrial.com111,1230.9×
tech-fab.com109340.8×

Custom Pipe sits mid-pack against companies it very likely outperforms in plant capacity, certification depth and operating history. US Pipe pulls nearly eighteen times the organic traffic.

The competitive read is favorable, though: nobody in this set has run away with the category the way a well-optimized national manufacturer could. The terms are cheap, the SERPs are winnable with real pages rather than directory listings, and Custom Pipe's genuine credentials are exactly the experience and authority signals both Google and AI answer engines reward. The assets are real. The encoding is missing.

11 — Conversion Readiness

Strong proof assets with no path to a quote

Working

  • Clear branch-locator structure
  • Technical resource library with genuinely useful downloadable specs
  • Testimonial post type in place
  • Named sales-team pages — rare and valuable in this category
  • Active LinkedIn presence with on-site prompts

Gaps

  • Product pages carry no schema, no meta descriptions, no differentiated titles
  • Half the branch pages omit the phone number entirely
  • No visible RFQ or quote-request flow on the product pages
  • The technical PDF library is ungated with no capture mechanism attached
  • No case studies or project galleries — for a fabricator, completed-project proof is the most persuasive asset type, and there is none
12 — SWOT

The honest balance sheet

Strengths

  • 50 years of continuous operating history
  • 13 plants across 9 states — national footprint with local presence
  • NSF/ANSI 61 certification, independently verifiable
  • AWWA participation and trade-press coverage
  • #1 for every branded variant — brand equity intact
  • 67 real content assets already written
  • Named sales teams and a branch structure matching how buyers buy

Weaknesses

  • Live cloaked spam injection on the homepage
  • Zero structured data across the entire site
  • Zero meta descriptions across the entire site
  • Declared sitemap returns 404
  • 83% of organic traffic is branded
  • Duplicate branch URLs splitting local signals 13 times over
  • Homepage carries the entire organic footprint
  • Both product pages draw zero traffic
  • Largest referring domain is a Russian PR syndication site

Opportunities

  • "Pipe fabrication" — 1,655/mo at difficulty 7, currently #19
  • 18,520/mo total potential on the flagship cluster
  • 87 keywords in positions 11–20, movable with on-page work alone
  • 13 complete local pages replacing 26 half-built ones
  • Organization + LocalBusiness + Product schema — currently zero
  • Topical clustering of content that already exists
  • Case studies and project galleries — currently absent
  • ProFab integration: 21 existing inbound links

Threats

  • Google spam action on the injected content — domain-level risk
  • The access path that produced it remains unaddressed
  • US Pipe at 17.9× organic traffic and compounding
  • AI Overviews answering category questions without Custom Pipe present
  • Branded-only visibility means zero insulation from a serious competitor
  • Toxic link cluster growing passively

14 — 90-Day Roadmap

Contain, then compete

Days 1–14

Contain and clean

  • Critical  Remove the injected casino block from the homepage — same day
  • Critical  Security audit: determine the access path, rotate credentials, check file integrity
  • Scan the full site and database for further injected content beyond the eight pages tested
  • Fix the robots.txt sitemap declaration to point at /wp-sitemap.xml
  • Clean up the legacy robots.txt directives
Days 15–45

Foundation

  • Write keyword-led titles and meta descriptions for all 145 sitemap URLs
  • Deploy Organization schema sitewide; LocalBusiness on all 13 locations; Product schema on both lines
  • Resolve the duplicate branch architecture — one URL pattern, 301 the other, merge so each page has H1, full NAP, hours, services and schema
  • Standardize entity name and NAP across GBP, Crunchbase, Yelp, YellowPages, TheBlueBook and NSF listings
  • Redirect legacy .html/.htm paths; remove hello-world
Days 46–90

Compete

  • Build a "Pipe Fabrication" capability hub targeting the 1,655/mo flagship, supported by the existing HSLA, Protecto 401, stainless spools and ductile iron articles
  • Attack the 87 page-two keywords with on-page optimization and internal linking
  • Rebuild both product hubs into genuine commercial pages with specs, applications, certifications, RFQ paths and schema
  • Launch case studies and project galleries — start with three flagship municipal projects
  • Begin authority cleanup: disavow review on the link-farm cluster; pursue AWWA, NGWA and trade citations

The first five moves

  • Delete the injected block today. It is four lines of HTML. The exposure it creates is domain-wide.
  • Find out how it got there. The cleanup is worthless if the access path stays open.
  • Point robots.txt at a sitemap that exists.
  • Ship schema. Thirteen plants, NSF certification and fifty years of history currently exist nowhere a machine can read them.
  • Pick one branch URL pattern and make those thirteen pages complete.

Bottom line. Custom Pipe & Fabrication is a genuinely strong company with a genuinely neglected digital foundation — and right now, with unauthorized content on its homepage that most owners would want removed within the hour.

The encouraging part is that almost nothing here requires strategy debate. The flagship keyword sits at difficulty 7. The technical content is already written. The certifications and the fifty-year history are real and independently verifiable. There is no positioning problem to solve and no market to be convinced of. There is a foundation that was never built, and a category nobody has claimed.

All of it is buildable in 90 days.
